Inspection

When I served as a crew chief on the UH-60 Black Hawk, every aircraft went through a PMI — a Preventative Maintenance Inspection.

A PMI isn’t a quick walk-around.
It’s systematic. It’s documented. It’s detailed.
And it assumes that small oversights lead to major failures.

That is exactly how we inspect roofs at Military Grade.

The UH-60 PMI Mindset

On a Black Hawk, we didn’t just look at what was visible. We inspected:

  • Structural integrity

  • Fasteners and torque specs

  • Fluid leaks and system pressures

  • Wear points that fail under stress

  • Components that appear fine — but are near end-of-life

Because in aviation, you don’t wait for failure.

Our Roofing PMI Approach

Most roofing companies do a quick visual estimate.

We perform a structured inspection that evaluates:

We assume that if something can fail — it eventually will — unless it is properly installed, sealed, and supported.

To assess your roof with military precision and a family-first focus, Military Grade LLC conducts a thorough reconnaissance mission to identify vulnerabilities before they become costly emergencies.

Our comprehensive inspection process includes:
a
  • Surface Assessment: We begin by clearing debris to inspect existing shingles for wind lift, hail bruising, or granule loss, followed by a damage assessment to determine the remaining service life of the roof.
  • Moisture Barrier Check: We evaluate the condition of the ice and water shield and existing underlayment to ensure your home’s secondary defense system is still providing adequate moisture protection.
  • Specification Review: We verify that all components were originally installed per specifications, identifying any areas where wind resistance or structural integrity may be compromised.
  • System Component Check: We inspect the condition of existing pipe jacks and chimney flashings for cracks or rust, and evaluate existing attic vents to ensure they are providing the ventilation necessary to prevent heat and moisture buildup.
  • Peak and Ridge Evaluation: We examine the hip and ridge shingles for signs of cracking or deterioration, as these high-point areas are often the first to fail during heavy storms.
  • Safety Clearance: Even during a routine inspection, we clean up any job-related debris or loose materials we find, ensuring your yard remains a safe environment for your family.

Why This Matters

A helicopter failure risks lives.

A roof failure risks:

  • Structural damage

  • Mold growth

  • Insurance disputes

  • Major financial stress

The discipline is the same — prevent failure before it starts.

At Military Grade, we don’t “sell roofs.”
We perform inspections the way aviation maintenance is performed — methodical, documented, and built around long-term performance.

Because your home deserves more than a quick glance and a clipboard estimate.
